Cllr Jon Hubbard is campaigning for a 20mph limit on Coronation Road

The campaign, spearheaded by Cllr Jon Hubbard, to see a 20mph limit on Coronation Road and the surrounding estate moved one step closer this week when the Commiunity Area Transport Group (CATG) received a report recommending implementation of the scheme.

The report showed that the estate met all of the requirements to have a 20mph limit introduced and can now be implemented if the necessary funding is allocated.

To complete the works it is estimated that the cost will be between £12,000 and £15,000.

Cllr Hubbard commented, "I will be bringing to the Town Council a proposal to fnd £5,000 of the cost of the project, with the remainder being funded by the Area Board and the CATG budget. I hope that my fellow councillor will support this important project which will significantly improve road safety along Coronation Road and Ruskin Avenue. I get so many complaints about people driving at inappropriate speeds on these roads and this can only help."

The project would see a new 20mph limit imposed on Coronation Road, Martigny Road, Ruskin Avenue, Somerset Crescent, Pembroke Road, Milton Avenue and Sangster Avenue.

Cllr Hubbard hopes that the scheme will be considered by the Town Council at their Asset Management Committee meeting on Monday 9th July and then by the Area Board at their meeting on Wednesday 5th September.
