Published on Friday 9th December 2011 by Jon Hubbard
Local Councillor Jon Hubbard has reacted with shock and anger after unearthing that Conservative-run Wiltshire Council are spending £42,000 on widening the pavement on Snowberry Lane by just 30cms.
What's more, rather than just widening the pavement, much of the road has seen the entire existing pavement ripped up and thrown away, and a whole new section laid.
Jon Hubbard commented, I understand that this is part of the scheme to try and make the route to Melksham Oak School as safe as possible, but this is not the work that needs doing.

As well as spending £370,000 of Wiltshire tax payers money on resurfacing the car park at their temporary offices in Melksham, Wiltshire Council are leaving the lights on late into the night.
Melksham Councillor Jon Hubbard has blasted the council for wasting money on the car park, saying "If it was good enough for teachers and parents when George Ward School was located on the site I can't understand why they spent £370,000 on improvements for councillors and County Hall staff who have been relocated while their £22m new offices are built in Trowbridge

This morning I was joined by by Cllr Pat Aves as we visited residents in Longford Road with my annual residents survey.
One thing that has really stood out for me as an issue on the street is the apauling condition of the pavements.
I have been pushing for these to be repaired for months now, but will be again writing to the council to point out just how awful a condition they are in, and the serious health and safety risk that they pose.
