Poll Date Announced

Wiltshire Council Electoral Services have finally announced the date for the Town Poll over the moving of the Town Centre Library and Youth Centre.

The poll is set to be held on Tuesday 31st May in the Melksham Assembly Hall, and polls will be open from 4pm to 9pm.

The message from the council reads:

I can confirm that the date for the Melksham Parish Poll has been set for Tuesday 31 May 2011.

There will be 6 polling stations sited in the Melksham Assembly Hall.

Please note that for a parish poll:

  • No poll cards are issued
  • No postal votes are issued
  • No proxies can be appointed
  • Polling hours are 4pm – 9pm

Only electors registered for the parish of Melksham are eligible to vote (i.e. electors in Melksham Without parish are not eligible).

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Local councillor Jon Hubbard has criticised the short notice of the date saying, "It has taken over two weeks for Wiltshire Council to come up with this date, yet they have given less than two weeks notice of the poll. The legal limit for the date the poll can be held is 8th June, so I don't understand  why they have to rush it though so fast. Could it be that they don't want people to know it is happening?"
