Jon Hubbard asks for Cabinet Decision on Library Move to be Delayed

Following the request from local residents for a town Poll to be conducted on the controversial plans by Wiltshire Council to move the Library and Youth Centre from their town centre locations to an out-of-town site at Woolmore Farm at Monday's Annual Town Council meeting local councillor Jon Hubbard has written to the council leader, Jane Scott, asking for the final decision due to be made by cabinet to be delayed until after the vote has taken place.

Jon said, "I think it is important the council waits and sees exactly what the result of this poll is. To date, conservative Councillors have dismissed every single piece of evidence that the town does not want to lose it's library, and this will really demonstrate exactly how people feel."

The councillor for Melksham South continued, "People are really upset about this, and spending just another few weeks waiting for the town to speak will not cost anything. It is really important that people get to have their say and that the cabinet a re fully aware of how people feel when they make their decisions".

Cllr Hubbard has also requested that the council considers holding the cabinet meeting in Melksham to allow local residents to attend. "I know people can attend the meetings in Trowbridge, but many of those who are passionate about this issue do not have the means to travel there. We have plenty of places the meeting could take place in the town, and I think that would really allow the council to demonstrate their commitment to open and transparent decision making."
